Hi Ed.
Are we interested in Smith Rowe?

EmilSC

{Ed002's Note - Emile Smith Rowe (AM/CM/LM) Representative was clear at the end of the summer that if Arsenal were persisting with trying to add the likes of James Maddison or Youri Tielemans then ESR would likely depart. Whether this has soured relatons or not I don't know, but Arsenal have been directly offering the player to other PL sides including Chelsea and Newcastle. Chelsea may have a need to replace Gallagher and he might be an option they consider but I am not aware of it goining further than that right now.}

1.) 29 Aug 2023 11:12:04
It’s a yes from me.

2.) 29 Aug 2023 11:41:10
Not if CG has to go in his place.

{Ed002's Note - No, you misunderstand. CG would not be leaving to accommodate ESR. If CM leaves, then ESSR is one of the options to replace him.}

3.) 30 Aug 2023 02:16:55
Who is CM?

4.) 30 Aug 2023 18:37:52
If CG says ‘hey I want to leave’ the club will try for ESR. The club won’t kick CG to the curb to sign ESR.

Hi Ed.

With Manuel Ugarte going to PSG, I was wondering if you know how many defensive mids are on our list still?

I am asking because I am getting a bit worried over how long the Caicedo transfer is taking. :)

EmilSC

{Ed002's Note - The number is not relevant and the club have alternate options.}

1.) 24 Jul 2023 22:13:18
Ed02

Wether it be moises or somebody else do u expect chelsea to bring in 1 or 2 midfielders

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Yes, that is the intention.}

2.) 25 Jul 2023 06:24:42
Thanks for the reply Ed - I will try to be more patient :)

3.) 25 Jul 2023 08:44:50
I keep saying we are wasting our time with Calcedo and Brighton who are not going to budge on their valuation or if they di it would be Cowell in part x.

We need to assist Poch now by bringing in alternatives so that he has some part of a pre-season with them.

4.) 25 Jul 2023 10:21:56
Bill, there is five weeks left of this window.

It would appear Calcedo is the clubs No1 choice and I would rather have him, albeit later than I would prefer, than the clubs 2nd or 3rd choice.

Colwill doesn’t look like being sold.

It will a work out fine.

5.) 25 Jul 2023 10:35:14
Tom,

It's far from ideal that we bring in players when the season is just about to start or indeed it's started already.

We need to hit the ground running if only from a confidence point of view.

The way I see it we either pay the £100mn or he is not coming to us which is Brighton's perogative.

If we have no intention in paying the £100mn, we should stop messing around and walk away.

6.) 25 Jul 2023 11:00:25
Bill, so is there some sort of guarantee about our next target that any deal will be done quickly?

I have no idea what Brighton are after as a fee and I haven’t got a clue what we have offered.

My guess is a compromise will be reached soon.

7.) 25 Jul 2023 14:56:35
Brighton will either accept a huge offer or be stuck with a player that doesn’t want to be at the club and will probably feel a bit let down that he wasn’t allowed to leave in January or the summer. Can’t blame Brighton for asking for a huge fee or Colwill in negotiations but I think as the window drags on, a compromise will be found as they realise it’s probably best for them to sell.

8.) 26 Jul 2023 22:00:26
Ed002 who are we still looking at and focusing on to get with caicedo or instead of? Are we interested in andre trindade at all? looks a good dm. Kone still an option we could look to get? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Nothing has changed.}

21 Jun 2023 18:02:10
Hi Ed002

Can I ask about any interest in CHO?

EmilSC

{Ed002's Note - There are a number of sides already having declared an interest and a representative looking at other options so he will have a choice.}

1.) 21 Jun 2023 18:23:24
Thanks for the reply!

2.) 21 Jun 2023 21:03:52
I bet ampadu has a lot of interest too,

I worry our selling fee’s are quite low, hope we get a good fee’s for Cho / ampadu / RLC / pulisic /.

3.) 22 Jun 2023 11:22:26
I was reading that Callum Hudson-Odoi could be leaving for Saudi Arabia with two Pro League clubs interested in him. I wonder why a young player would be interested in the retirement league . money must be good.

Ziyech is nearing an £8m move to Al-Nassr in the Saudi pro-league apparently.

Hi Ed02.
If we buy Nicolas Jackson Will it be as starting striber or?

EmilSC

{Ed002's Note - The club has a squad not a starting 11 plus others. Chelsea are making changes by moving players on and by adding a few - and all of the targets are well understood but the decision on who starts games will be down to the coach/manager.}

1.) 16 Jun 2023 21:56:19
Wise words once again, Ed.
With nkunku and potentially Jackson joining, will the club be looking to add more forwards?

{Ed002's Note - It is unrelated to Nkunku.}

2.) 17 Jun 2023 07:57:16
Thanks for the replies :) Have a nice day!

3.) 19 Jun 2023 08:58:39
I know it’s only YouTube vids but I genuinely like the look of this kid. Reminds me of a young Drogba. Great holdup play and definitely a threat in the air from crosses/ corners. Looks a very accomplished dribbler also. Could be a very shrewd signing at €35m if it’s true we our activating his release clause!

Hi Ed02.
May I ask: what are the plans for Ampadu? :)

EmilSC

{Ed002's Note - Ethan Apadu (CB) Will be available for transfer.}

Hi Ed002.

I was wondering if you would share the club's view on Pochettino so far.

I'm not saying that I think the club should sack him, but I am curious to know the management's stance on current results, level of play and general (dis? ) satisfaction.

I fully understand if you do not wish to share your knowledge about the situation.

Also, long time no see. Unfortunately I do not have the time to browse the site as often as I'd like, but nice to see that everyone is still here and going strong.

EmilSC

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any dissatisfaction. Everyone wants results to improve but it takes time to integrate players and the club has suffered with very significant injuries.}

1.) 10 Jan 2024 13:43:06
Thanks for the reply, and quite sensible stance the club has taken in that case.

I wasn't able to catch the last game, but what a joy it has been to actually win a few games in a row. Must lighter tone on this page and social media.

Long may it last! :)

As there are - rightfully so - a lot of negative posts recently, we must not forget to also make positive posts when we get a positive result.

Overall I thought yesterday was a fine game from us. The defensive was shaky at times, at Sanchez had a poor game with his feet. However, he made some really great saves too, and after all he kept a clean sheet - so nice game from him, I guess.

Great fight from Cucurella - a bit sloppy in the first half, but what a second half our little Spaniard had.

Mudryk - I've always been a fan and spoken him up, perhaps a bit too much even. But he's starting to show his qualities more regularly, and I believe he will become a great player for us by the end of this season.

Jackson - nice to see the big guy score, and unfortunate that the second one got ruled out. Great for his confidence to, I am sure!

Ugochukwu - a bit shaky at times, and lucky not to get send off. He is still young and grew into the game - I believe he will turn out fine in time.

Palmer - seems like a player with lots of talent. It shines through that he's played in Pep's system, and I believe he will be a key during low presses this season.

All in all a fine game, with nice signs for the future.

EmilSC

1.) 28 Sep 2023 06:54:39
Emil, I enjoyed your summary of last night’s game.

Our second half performance was good. In the first half the players didn’t support one another as much as usual but this improved as our confidence grew.

It’s a platform to build from and it will be interesting to see the Poch team selection for next Monday.

2.) 28 Sep 2023 08:53:37
If it wasn’t for extremely poor officiating it could of been two or possibly three as Jackson was on for his second and Broja was flagged off even tho he was in his own half.
Very pleased with the result. KTBFFH!

3.) 28 Sep 2023 09:10:09
The officials were awful but we could have easily been down to ten men again.

4.) 28 Sep 2023 12:09:39
Too right Tom, the officials last night were atrocious but there was no bias involved to my eye. It is certainly a hard job but you can sympathise with the reactions and frustrations of players when the officials are getting routine decisions wrong so frequently.

5.) 28 Sep 2023 15:32:16
Yes the officials v poor but Emil's summary good!

6.) 28 Sep 2023 16:30:47
Great post Emil, you are so right about the balance between negative posts and positive posts. I find it strange, as we are all fans of the club, that some only ever post after a defeat and rarely after a win. I wonder what others think?
Back to the game and MC was rightly highlighted for an excellent performance and following on from ED01's comments yesterday about confidence I think he was a shining example of a good player needing a break and hopefully he kicks on from here. In fact, I think ED01 once said just what a good player he is.
Mudryk is a special talent and again, going back to yesterdays discussions just needs that bit of confidence to kick on. Small shoots of recovery but nice to see a more rounded set of comments on here.

Hi Ed001

It seems very obvious that what is wrong with Chelsea currently is the lack of skill/ calmness/ whatever to score goals.

I'd like to hear if you think this is the player's fault, the coach's fault or perhaps just due to bad luck?

I'd also love to hear if you think there are any "solutions" to the problem other than just buying a new strike, which isn't possible until January.

EmilSC

{Ed001's Note - it is never one person/thing totally to blame. Like when a goal is conceded, there are multiple mistakes made in the build up by a number of players for the play to arrive at the point it did. It is the same in this case. There are a lot of things that are causing problems.

Number 1 is confidence, which seems to be in very short supply. That can be fixed, but the usual and most efficient solution is discipline and drilling players relentlessly. Poch is not good at the discipline side, that has always been the problem his team has faltered on when it comes to the crunch. That lack of discipline sees them crumble under pressure. There is a reason why military forces are so keen on tough discipline, because at that moment when you want to mentally quit, it is discipline (whether self-discipline or enforced) that keeps you going.

Without relentless drill and discipline, you are relying on psychological means and/or luck to bring that confidence back. Which is perfectly possible if the players you have are self-confident and believe in themselves. Hard to say whether they do or not, lots of players have a strutting arrogance to hide their deep-lying insecurities, but lots are genuinely full of belief in their own ability. If they have that genuine belief, then confidence will flood back as soon as something goes in their favour. Those that don't have that self-confidence might well need to find some kind of superstition to hang onto in order to feel it.

Luck is a big factor though, as even when you believe in yourself, if you feel luck is against you, then you will not be confident in your chances of getting a win. Right now the players must be feeling it is all against them, especially after the way Caicedo started off and Lavia, Nkunku etc picked up injuries. A chance going in off someone's backside or an opponent scoring an own goal etc can soon change that lucky feeling. One moment like that is enough to make it feel like your luck is turning.

The other big factor is the huge turnover in playing staff, which has been increased by the lack of experience of the new signings. Experience teaches you how to deal with problems and work through them. Bringing in a bunch of youngsters might seem great in theory, but in practice it can just end up with almost none of them reaching anything like their potential without the right experience around them to guide them. Right now you basically have Silva with that experience and no one else. That is not a good situation to be in. I know people will bring up the Man Utd side that 'won it with kids', but that is just absolute bollox. They had a very experienced spine, Schmeichel, Cantona, Irwin etc were 30+. It was not a team of kids at all, just had a couple sprinkled in there. That experience is sadly lacking at Chelsea and it is right now you are seeing the effect it can have. When things go well it doesn't matter about a lack of experience or how little discipline there is etc, it is only when things get tough it matters.

The solution is to grind hard. There is no quick fix, the team just have to work at it.}

Emil, good question and thanks Ed for your in depth response.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome Tom.}

2.) 27 Sep 2023 15:18:23
Yes good question Emil and great thoughtful answer as usualk from you Ed001, thanks to both of you.

Coincidentally I had just seen a YouTube video posted by Football Meta titled Why Chelsea Can't Score (But Man City Can) which goes into how CFC were when piece made 1st in league for number of crosses and for cut backs from byline into potential scoring positions - but is someone there, and what is there confidence level! - while City 1st for through balls and (I think) from crosses into box from inside forward position just outside it with argument that City technique harder for low block defense to deal with. BUt gthen City do have Haaland!

{Ed001's Note - that is something Pep has always liked as he believes balls from inside forward position on an angle into the box are easier to score from. It was one of the first things he worked on when he became manager of Barca B. That is why he is not bothered about full-backs getting forward in wide areas and tries to invert them all the time.

It works with his set up because he drills the team in it relentlessly, but it is not a natural way of playing. That is why it takes so much work to get it to click and he can go and buy the best players in the world to play those passes. It is questionable whether you have the right players to play that way. You need a De Bruyne or Silva (either Bernardo or David) class player to put those balls into the right areas. I don't see anyone in your team that can pass like that. Enzo is probably your best passer, but he is not playing on the edge of the box like the Citeh players do.}

3.) 27 Sep 2023 16:16:46
Blimey, my fellow posters are on fire with there questions today.

Thanks again for your insight Ed.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome Tom.}

4.) 27 Sep 2023 16:16:56
A very good question EmilSC and a great reply ED01.
I agree totally with ED01 as well, confidence is a huge factor, particuarly with young players who have arrived from different cultures and leagues. Take Mudryk for example, a young player who arrives from a war torn country on his own and is understandably lonely and homesick. After all, these players might earn big money but are human beings as well and I do feel a lot of (fans) don't really understand that they are as emotional as you and I.

The Poch and discipline has been mentioned before and time will tell if he can move forward and create that environment for the players to move forwards. Luck has certainly been against us, particuarly with injuries to key players, if Nkunku had been fit to start the season and Carney had not got injured I honestly feel we would of won our first 2 games against Liverpool and West Ham and suddenly the confidence is sky high, pundits would be talking us up and the belief would be there. fine margins particuarly with young players as well.

ED01 is 100% right, the only way now is to grind it out, keep working hard, keep doing the right things and over time things will change. After all, this is a very good squad of young players and a refresh was needed and has been needed for several seasons now. Should it of been done in such a short space of time? who knows? Should we of kept some of the experienced players? not for me. I do believe it will come good and exciting times are not far away.

5.) 27 Sep 2023 22:01:48
G8, I agree with the majority of your post mate.

Hi Ed001.

Cole Palmer is a player I have not really had the chance to watch play too often.

Would you mind telling me a bit about him? I understand if not.

EmilSC

{Ed001's Note - I have only seen him make a few sub appearances and the U21 euros final. Very left footed, skilful but wasteful with the ball. His strength is cutting in and hitting a shot from the right wing.}

1.) 30 Aug 2023 20:17:55

Letting Mudryk go would be senseless to me.
Is it something that the club is genuinely considering, Ed?

I do understand that you doubt it, but that might be due to lack of takers of what do I know. So what I am wondering is if the club is looking to get rid of him?

Hi Ed.

I skimmed through your article but unfortunately don't have the time to read the entire thing today.
I was wondering if you, like Klopp, think the game should be replayed?

Personally, I believe it would be quite problematic if the match were to be replayed. This is because VAR decisions have frequently proven to be incorrect in many cases. My point isn't to suggest that the Liverpool vs. Spurs match wasn't problematic, because it very much was, but rather that it would be unjust to all the other teams that have been on the receiving end of erroneous VAR judgments.

In my opinion, Liverpool supporters should, at the very least, take solace in the Premier League acknowledging their mistake with VAR—a gesture I can't recall happening when they made an error in a Chelsea game, for example. I don't mean to imply that this acknowledgment is entirely satisfying, but it's not something that can be taken for granted, and many Premier League clubs are yet to receive such recognition.

EmilSC

{Ed001's Note - the point isn't whether a replay or not takes place, the point should be whether or not the PGMOL takes proper action to fix the issues instead of vague promises for change. Also they can't just say Darren England will not officiate Liverpool games, if he is not capable of that, then he is not capable enough to officiate in the Prem at all. It is the same old crap as always from the PGMOL, standing together and covering up problems. There needs to be transparency and all communication needs to be open and available for all to hear live during matches.}
