If there's any truth in Everton wanting 40 million for Stones that is a joke as much as I'd like him here. Otamendi was the best defender in La Liga last season and he's available, we should go for him. Rumour has it that Valencia wanted 28.4 million and Mangala on loan for the season. Why don't we try to broker a deal and send Zouma there to gain experience at a club where he'll be playing champions league? Otamendi is a powerhouse not to mention he's very fast for a CB and pops up with goals too. Thoughts?

Keep Zouma, ditch Cahill and sign Otamendi could possibly be a better option .

Yeh I wouldn't get rid of Zouma. With the defence playing the way they are, I think there's a good chance he will get a fair few minutes this year, which would be far better for his development than a loan.

Pay £35 mil for stones , he'll be here for 10+ years , works out to be a cheap deal.

I think I would still pay the money for Stones - we need an English spine and, from what people in the game are saying, he's the brightest English prospect around.

Go for Laporte instead. If you're going to spend a boatload on a young defender, make sure it's the best talent available.

Now the pre-season media rumours have died the death the comments are now homing in on good ideas. No, Stones cannot be worth £35-£40m at his age but he's English, young and amortize that figure over a good ten years out of him and it makes sense. I see no reason on earth why Zouma would be sent on loan as opportunities for him must be increasing weekly. With his two poor performances and the rumours it could be reasonable to think Ivanovic will be on his way. Cahill I think has never really won Mourinho over and he relies on Terry to organise him which makes Nicolas Otamendi a sensible target, one of the few thrown around that appeals to me, if we do not get Stones. With Azi possibly switching, Rahman coming in on the left and Terry co-ordinating the central players whoever they are, we will have the increased mobility we need. Interested in any comments regarding Terry as I think he has at least one more good year in him; never the quickest but reads the game well and Saturday was being pulled all over the place covering and I think subjected to a tactical sub to make a point.
