The story I read this morning was Chelsea currently have 41 players in its squad. That number includes 4-5 young players who I understand do not have to be registered in our 25 player premiership squad. I can't see the homegrown rules being a problem but it looks to me as if we do need to focus on some sales.
The players I would sell or loan are Disasi, Tosin, Chalaboa, Badiashile, Delap, Guiu, Jorgensen and maybe Gusto. I assume we will all come up with different sales lists but it's all just fun.

Five on your list have at least one foot out the door, Tom.

J, Fingers crossed and good luck to them at their next clubs.

Chalobah is a done deal. I don't want to see any loans from except for young players. I would add Jackson and Neto plus a few more.

Jorgensen, Disasi, Badiashile, Tosin, Gusto, Neto, Guiu, Delap, Jackson all leave, I think. Then there's the super fringe players, Slonina, Wiley, D.Fofana, Washington, who will likely be sold or loaned. Sarr & Anselmino will likely be going out on loan. Satpaev and Paez out on loan, too. That's like 17 exits, which would leave us with 24 players.

Think all on your list will go. Think you can add Jackson, maybe Neto (hope not), and possibly Enzo (hope so).

It's convenient, because it fits the narrative, to inflate the numbers we have in the squad.
It would be churlish to suggest that we don't have too many, but it's not quite as bad as is being suggested.
For instance, there are four keepers: Curd, Jorgensen and Sharman Lowe. One will be third choice, but the other three will be either out on loan or sold/released. Jorgensen to Strasbourg seems a deal just waiting to be announced.
We know we are well stacked for CD. It looks highly likely that the Chalobah deal is done. Then senior players like Disasi and Badiashile look to be likewise close to exits, and don't be surprised if Tosin is likewise off. Then, a couple of the youngsters, like Sarr, will probably be sent on loan.
Alonso wants 4-5 CDs. They are likely to be Lacroix, Chalobah, Fofana, Hato and Josh (I hope I am wrong, but I just get the feeling he might push to move).
Too much noise around Gusto leaving for there not to be some legs in it.
Not sure at all about midfield, but I just get the feeling that, again, the noise around Fernandez is too loud and he will be off. I hope!
Then you look at forwards. I hope we can get some sort of return from moving Delap and, again, Jackson. Guiu, I have mixed feelings about.
Alonso and the gaggle of SDs will probably, by now, know full well what work still needs to be done in the transfer window in terms of further incomings, but now the main focus will obviously be on departures.
We won't have 25 in our over-21 squad, and, without the extra restrictions of UEFA squads, we may well be keeping players who won't take a squad place in the PL squad but would have, had we been in Europe.

Terras, nice post, mate.

Great post, Terras.
I also think Josh will be off on loan, as he is not starting games and therefore way down the list. Tosin will stay, as he is one of Alonso's leaders in the dressing room, and a good enough squad player who won't be pushing for minutes like young Josh.
I think the 5 centrebacks will be Levi, Lacroix, Tosin, Fofana, and Scalvini, or an alternative if Man U snap him up first.
I too hope Enzo moves on.
Delap, Guiu, Neto and Jackson will likely all move too.

Just a few comments on the thread. As for Tosin, I don't know if he is thought of as a leader, but on the pitch he is a liability. So I would keep Josh. The Enzo situation is problematic. I am not convinced he is committed to the club. However, if he does go, it needs to be sorted out quickly. Moises can't do it all by himself.
I have no confidence that Lavia, Essugo, or Henderson can step in and fill the gap if Enzo goes. So, who could we sign to replace him? The prospect of Enzo going without an adequate replacement and Sanchez as No 1 keeper is like accepting that we are not ambitious to compete at the highest level. We shall see.

Jimbo, I have always been a fan of EF as a player, and I have made my views very clear on this site about what I think should now happen regarding his Chelsea future.
My Palace mate is totally convinced that Wharton is joining us if EF leaves.
Mind you, I have a scouser mate who thinks Wharton is joining them.
I just think Alonso will have Sanchez as his No1 keeper. Sadly I can't see Costa joining us.

Agree with you, Jimbo, but would optimistically assume a plan is in place if Enzo departs. Had hoped we would be in for Bruno G as replacement, but not happening, and he wants Arsenal if leaving Newcastle, it seems. Not sure Wharton is on the same level as Enzo though?
