In my perfect world I would like us to go get Hall back from Newcastle. They are supposedly interested in our Delap or Jackson.

If only these things happened. ??.

Apparently Real Madrid have agreed a £50m deal with Chelsea for Cucarella.

If true, thanks for everything and good luck for your future.

TomB

1.) 14 Jun 2026 18:44:51
I'm actually quite pleased with that. Good player, but made noises when on international duty.
Be interesting to see who the replacement will be. I suppose it depends on what formation Alonso plays. I must admit I do like Hato.

2.) 14 Jun 2026 19:39:49
I think they are trying to bring Hall back. If that fails, they will look to Grimaldo. They may also take a look at Barco there, if playing at a wb. They've got a young Brazilian coming over this summer, already signed, but will be a loan candidate. Depth there has been poor, so some movement in the window is definitely needed.

3.) 14 Jun 2026 21:29:35
Depending on formation, I'd be happy with Hato & Barco as a back up option. James & Colwill can always cover there too, if desperate. I think it likely we'll go for Grimaldo, though.

4.) 14 Jun 2026 22:29:44
No ROI again. Thanks, Cucurella, a great player and can't blame him for wanting UCL football in his prime.

5.) 14 Jun 2026 22:46:15
What's ROI?

6.) 15 Jun 2026 09:31:14
Yes, what is ROI, Standard?

J reckon you are right on predictions.

7.) 15 Jun 2026 09:46:00
Jbs, I think it may be Return on Investment.

I would argue that the club has got a very good return on its playing and financial investment in Cucarella, but some fans refer to transfer fees as "blown" money. Particularly if it's on players they don't rate.

8.) 15 Jun 2026 09:47:27
Return on investment?

9.) 15 Jun 2026 15:30:12
The "can't blame him comment" now also seems wide of the mark, as it is now reported he is leaving the club for family reasons and fond memories. His parting message to us fans is class, in my opinion, and he is spot on "London is forever blue."

My understanding, when Maresca left in mid season, was his contract had been terminated by mutual consent.

It would now appear that he was on some sort of “garden leave” and we are now negotiating with City for his contractual release and compensation.

TomB

1.) 03 Jun 2026 16:34:48
Garden leave. Now we know why Greenaway is always talking about grass not always being greener. Sorry, Greenaway, only joking.

2.) 04 Jun 2026 00:29:38
Almost all managers are put on gardening leave when given the heave ho. It's due to compensation for both the manager and the club. Basically, if a manager is fired, they're generally paid up the remainder of their contract unless there's clauses in their contract. Compensation agreements are flexible; ie if Manager A had 3 years left on their contract, the payout would be X. If they get a new job within a year, it's 1/2X; if within 6 months, it's 1/4X, etc.

They're put on gardening leave up til a set amount of time to see what compensation is owed.

In this case, I imagine we'll ask City for whatever we owe Maresca + a small fee for tapping him up. Or perhaps Maresca will waive whatever compensation was agreed with Chelsea and we'll get a small fee, nothing like what we'd get if he was still officially the Head Coach.

3.) 04 Jun 2026 15:07:20
My guess is City will pay up if they think they might get charged with tapping up!!

4.) 04 Jun 2026 17:06:46
It seems that Maresca was approached (tapped up) by Man City, and immediately reported this to the club, and told them he would not engage with them but would like a new contract to match what Man City were offering. Seems very fair, decent and reasonable on his part. It transpires that the club (Chelsea) told him no, and to go on garden leave, hence the change of manager.

I'm not sure what compensation will be due either way, but it does show Man City do tend to get away with whatever suits them. Will be interesting how this pans out, but my guess is their money will just cover it all up.

5.) 04 Jun 2026 21:45:50
RPD, I have never seen or heard any word of Maresca asking the club to match any potential City offer. That's a new one on me.

6.) 05 Jun 2026 10:59:05
Tom, I have seen it quoted several times that Maresca said he would not engage further with Man City if the club rewarded him with a new contract on improved terms, but he was told a very firm no.

7.) 05 Jun 2026 14:48:24
Rpd, that being the case, I'm super glad we parted ways with Maresca, and, again, if that is the case, it may well mean a larger payout from City.

02 Jun 2026 18:31:24
My mate, the not so happy Hammers fan tells me we have not only asked about Bowen but also Fernandez.
I think both are good players and if we are going for Fernandez that suggests to me that Enzo is likely to leave.

TomB

1.) 03 Jun 2026 08:34:44
Or maybe Tom, we are looking at other players just in case somebody makes an offer that is too good to turn down for EF.

2.) 03 Jun 2026 17:29:38
Fernandes looks a decent player, but last I saw the rumoured fee was very high - maybe as they've gone down, it will be brought down a bit, but in that case I can imagine there'll be plenty of competition to sign him.

27 May 2026 22:15:16
Wirtz to Chelsea. Vey, very unlikely in my opinion.

Didn't have a good season for the scousers but he is a player I rate very highly.

My guess is it's more about him playing well for Alonso.

Love the rumours.

Nice goodbye message from Cucarella.

It would appear he is leaving for family reasons and just shows that fans like me shouldn't jump to conclusions.

TomB

1.) 15 Jun 2026 17:35:59
That's fair enough, good luck to him. It's good that some of previous top players still care about the club, Drogba, Obi-Mikel, Hazard, Jimmy Floyd etc. Nice to see a photo of Eden at the Bridge wearing the new Chelsea shirt.

2.) 15 Jun 2026 18:44:50
Very classy from him, Tom, and he has my best wishes for himself and his family. Jimbo, I totally agree about those former players you mention, who, along with the likes of club legend JT, bleed blue.

Hi Ed. I hope you are keeping safe and well?

Can I ask your opinion and potential fall out from the recent Everton damages in favour of Liverpool.

a) I assume as we were not deducted points for our most recent irregularities we would be unlikely to find ourselves in the same position as Everton.

b) if as expected City are found guilty on multiple counts spread over many years, do you think it likely that teams denied, say a Champions League spot, will take City to court for potential damages?

I hope that all make sense?

TomB

{Ed001's Note - in favour of Liverpool? I take it you meant Burnley! Everton have already admitted culpability and paid a small amount to Leeds in recompense, so this is simply a negotiation over the size of the fine really.

a) I very much doubt there will be anything similar with regards to Chelsea, I can't see who would have the potential to challenge when you were not in a relegation battle.

b) There is very much a possibility that teams may take legal action against Citeh, as this has opened a big can of worms. However, I would not expect it to come to anything as it is difficult to prove they would not have made the top 4 (or even top 2 for that matter) without the extra money.}

1.) 11 Jun 2026 12:08:37
Thanks for your reply Ed and yes, I did mean Burnley.

2.) 11 Jun 2026 12:57:01
I see some Everton fans are saying clubs, including them, should now take Liverpool to court for loss of European revenue during the 80s, when English clubs were banned from European competitions following the Liverpool fan trouble. I believe Everton were a regular European competitor in those days.

3.) 11 Jun 2026 17:16:42
greenaway you do post some utter nonsense at times. just not relevant to mention that.

4.) 11 Jun 2026 18:33:08
I think Greenaway is just posting what he has heard or read from some Everton fans.
Most Everton fans seem to be aggrieved about the amount involved, and it is probably understandable. I guess it's human nature to ask the question, "why us and why not them", no matter how tenuous the link may be.

5.) 11 Jun 2026 20:17:43
Maybe not relevant to Liverpool fans, Kaz, but, as Tom said, I just brought up what some Everton fans have been saying. Apparently, they were very aggrieved in the mid 80's to be robbed of revenue from European competitions due to the 5 year ban on English clubs following the Liverpool fan trouble.

6.) 12 Jun 2026 08:47:28
I had forgotten about that 5 year European ban for English clubs following the Liverpool fans trouble. Imagine the lawsuits today if that happened?

7.) 12 Jun 2026 17:19:57
Not sure where these Everton fans are, Greenaway - I work in Liverpool and have not heard that one yet... Like I said, not relevant to the modern day.

8.) 12 Jun 2026 21:20:58
It's a banter page, Kaz. Don't get too worried by my opinions or the opinions of Everton fans who clearly feel aggrieved whether or not it is relevant to you. Chill out, bro.

9.) 14 Jun 2026 16:14:38
bit of a difference between an opinion and outright lying/making things up.noticed you have a tendency to do the latter.

10 Jun 2026 13:09:54
I have just renewed my ST for next season. It’s that time of year when I go into super optimistic mode. Sadly, in recent years reality hits home early.
Anyway, we will obviously win all the domestic competitions.

Come on my mighty Blues.

TomB

1.) 10 Jun 2026 19:32:02
Tom, I will be renewing my ST. Despite winning two trophies, I was not optimistic about the season gone. I felt the squad was unbalanced and lacked quality in key positions. I think I predicted 6th to 8th. I feel slightly more optimistic about next season. I believe Alonso was a good appointment, but I hope he is allowed to influence comings and goings to suit his style of play.

The squad needs to be substantially trimmed. We have a few academy players bubbling under, who will need some game time. As for signings, quality not quantity. No predictions from me until I see who goes and who comes in.

Rip Bobby Tambling.
One of my favourite all time Chelsea legends.

TomB

1.) 04 Jun 2026 08:18:45
Absolutely Tom, this was the first goal I saw as I started supporting our club just before the cup final vs. Spurs.

RIP Bobby.

2.) 04 Jun 2026 08:42:57
Before my time, as a player, but his exploits obviously came to light as Lampard approached and passed his goal record. A club legend.

RIP Bobby.

3.) 04 Jun 2026 09:30:38
Rightly a Chelsea legend of the 1960s, and a modest and gentle man. A wonderful striker.

RIP Bobby, and condolences to the Tambling family.

4.) 04 Jun 2026 16:17:12
RIP Bobby.

5.) 04 Jun 2026 17:03:46
RIP, Bobby Tambling, a great player from a time when footballers were more connected to supporters, instead nowadays when they strut around like male models with £30 K man bags (a contradiction in terms).

A few weeks ago I asked if anyone has seen Mike Gadt playing for Ajax. I am told we have asked about his availability and my son in law (Dutch) says he is a proper talent.

I have now looked at some of his performances and he looks just the player we need. Can go both ways, quick and goes past defenders as if they are standing still.

I suggest if you guys get a chance tou should have a look. I wonder if any of the Ed's have a view on his abilities?

TomB

{Ed001's Note - looks an excellent player Tom. Obviously he is playing in a lower level league, so it might take him a bit to adapt, but he looks a special talent.}

1.) 02 Jun 2026 10:30:16
I agree Ed. He looks a talent in a very poor Ajax team and league.

I'm sure lots of clubs must be after him but fingers crossed he signs for us.

JBS, I agree Cucarella had one horrible season, but has generally been very good for us.
I don't like it when players start talking about moving during a season, but my guess is it's driven by agents, and, again, as you say, we don't keep a player if they are not happy.

I assume it will now show as a financial profit on our books, but he also gave a playing return on our investment, and I cannot fault his effort for the club. As you say, too early to judge about replacements, but I am a Hall fan.

Greenaway, I can't remember what he cost all those years ago? I seem to remember £50m ish, but I'm not certain.
I wouldn't have a clue if it was an Alonso or SD decision, but he hinted that he wanted to go, so goodbye as far as I am concerned.

I seem to remember a previous poster saying a sale would likely show as a book profit of approx £30m.
I guess we will sell some at a profit and some at a loss, just like most clubs.

I think Enzo will be leaving along with Badiashile, Tosin, Disasi, Delap/Jackson, Guiu, Jorgensen and maybe Garnacho.
When I watched Bl under Alonso, it always seemed to be a back three, but I have no idea about his preferred shape at Rm.

It sounds to me that, like most good coaches, he can be flexible.

Throughout last season, we were generally passive with and without the ball, and a change to a more aggressive/progressive style of football is what I'm looking for.
I hate seeing my team outworked.

Jimbo, I suggested that if they are to get a transfer ban then punishment should be "before" the window opens. Any appeal for that part of the sanction could well take more than the term of this transfer window, but if it did I would suggest City again run the risk of that particular sanction being extended.

My point about any points deduction remains. When clubs have appealed about the severity of a points deduction, those appeals have generally been heard quickly, for obvious reasons.

No, it's not. It's very clear. Penalties that included points deductions and were appealed have been heard very quickly.

All of the appeals that have involved a points deduction as a penalty. Because they affect the outcome of a league, they are generally heard quickly.

I think most fans care about the City penalty on lots of fronts. If you're not, ho hum.
