It looks like long throws are coming back into fashion which reminds of the late great Ian Hutchinson and his massive throw that led to Webb's goal in the FA cup final replay.

Now that was a goal Jimbo, vall in the bet along with half the Leeds team.

That was a fantastic moment. I had a drink with Hutchinson and Osgood in a local bar after we had just got stuffed by Norwich in the league cup semifinal first leg.

Hutchinson could hardly walk but he could still drink. My hangover lasted for days!

Amazing to have had that time with Ossie and Hutch Tom. Well worth a bad hangover. It was so sad that Hutch's career ended by injury before it should have. That throw, the Webb goal, Hutch and Ossie aerial threat a reminder of the lack we have in this respect in current team. As it is we still endlessly cross the ball high into the box but with Jackson poor in the air and no one else much good either though occasionally a Cucurella or EF can be unmarked in right place at right time to nod home.

We still so. need an attacker with real aerial power though ascwe had with DD and perhaps could have with eg Osimhen. It would be quite nice too to have a latter day Ossie to cheer on at the Bridge. But we might need Champions League football to attract one?!

Maresca got it wrong first half but did well tactically second half to correct it. The feeling amongst most of us was that he is possibly going to be a very good coach once he picks up more experience and that is the same with the players. We all want instant success but the general feeling was that owners have gone down this route and no change will be made going into next season whether we end up in the champions league or europa league. We also thought a 6 point return from Fulham away, Liverpool home and Newcastle away was more than any of us (12 of us) thought would be achieved. A tiny sample but thought I would share.

12 May 2025 21:03:36
Greenaway, my guess is the “instant success” under RA’s ownership was the rarity and it probably spoilt us fans.

I can’t remember another club being able to repeat that level of RA success.

I’m also of the opinion that EM will be our manager at the start of next season. I also can’t see there being a change at SD level either.

I get the amount spent on transfers and the amounts received from transfers has almost been mind blowing. I think is understandable for fans to want more given the investments made on players. I think we are just about moving in the right direction, would I like progress to be quicker? Of course I would but for me it was always likely that success would take time.

Agree0 0Disagree

12 May 2025 21:04:36
Greenaway I agree with most of that need to keep to a long term strategy have some brilliant young players who will get better i hope the same is true of the coach.

Am a long term Chelsea fan the Roman years will never be repeated generally I would prefer one owner Bohely and one sporting directing for clarity but generally think they are doing a pretty good job bar be too ready to sack managers

looking at my predictions the last 8 games had us beating Ipswich thought we would draw at Arsenal and lose at Fulham think we will beat utd and forest.

I do agree with this. A lot of credit to the manager and the boys for the second half performance. Shame Jackson let them down. He's done this a few times now.

Agree0 0Disagree

12 May 2025 22:27:30
Thanks boys for your replies, Tom, you are 100% right, the instant success under Roman was a one off in football terms and spoilt a lot of fans. Seymns2, we all think Todd will be off as he made those early mistakes backing TT with experienced players like Sterling, KK and others and putting them on silly money. Clearlake have turned it around in order to comply with FFP. Standard, we all said the same, he needs to go and we probably make a decent profit on him as well.

12 May 2025 22:37:03
Greenaway, I can’t see us selling Jackson but I can see us signing Sesko.

Agree0 0Disagree

12 May 2025 22:49:08
Obviously early mistakes were made I don't know the ins and outs of the ownership but Boehly has a background in sports rather than money funds, am ambivalent to Jackson staying or going he will become a good player but if he goes we will need two in I would choose Delap and A. N other haven't seen enough of Sesko to judge either way but would like an experienced forward.

Like the rumours linking us to Huijsen at Bournemouth a Rolls Royce of a footballer the way he carries the football as a CB is fantastic reminds me a little bit of a young Alan Hansen.

Interesting thread but when when people talk about progress, I see it differently as a need to address the decline of the club. A few seasons ago we were a top club competing at all levels. For the past few seasons we have been in decline primarily because of some terrible signings and very poor manager appointments. As for the ownership, I don’t see any clear direction or strategy and a lack of ambition for the club. Personally, the first thing I would do is get rid of the SDs and Ben Roberts before anymore money is wasted. Whatever happens for the rest of the season I don’t envisage any great improvement unless some drastic changes are made.

Agree0 0Disagree

13 May 2025 08:39:39
I like Jackson and think he is a good option. Not a starting 9 though. I also cannot see a profit in him at all.

Agree0 0Disagree

13 May 2025 09:07:46
Firstly there will be no profit if we sell Jackson, clubs will not see him as an out and out no.9.

No surprise, I totally agree with Jimbo in as much as I would like one owner and one SD. I keep reading one person likes Maresca, one doesn't, one wants to movexaway from the Bridge, the other doesn't, one want to continue buying young, the other wants a bot more experience.

Not sure how a club can be run like that.

I see on the Everton site an AI program describe our club as being Chaotic, not a word I want our club to be associated with.

Agree0 0Disagree

13 May 2025 09:26:17
I can’t see us finding out anytime soon if a sale of Jackson will or won’t make profit as it unlikely to happen. I value him at £65m but who on earth cares on what does it matter how fans value a player. Forwards are in short supply and it would probably depend on how many clubs would want him.

The irony of anything or anyone associated with Everton referring to us a “chaotic” is almost laughable given there recent history.

I think the vast majority of fans would describe our forced sale and takeover as rushed and I personally think allied to some poor advice (as quoted by Ed002) this was a very strange period in our history. After that first season I think things have very gradually calmed down and I also think a period of stability can only help.

Agree0 0Disagree

13 May 2025 10:11:14
Tom

It was only on their site, it was actually an AI program.

I agree the sale was rushed however we are 3 years into the ownership and are still making the same mistakes.

As I said previously, we need one owner and one SD, too many cools and all that.

13 May 2025 10:36:45
No club would pay £65 million for Jackson. We won’t make a profit on him if he were sold. Personally, if we bring in a proper striker I would give Jackson a chance to play out wide as I am unimpressed with our current crop of wingers.
I.

Agree0 0Disagree

13 May 2025 11:39:48
I would agree with Jimbo about playing Jackson out wide with new striker. I would also want that new striker to have real aerial power in the box something we've lacked for several seasons now though Havertz offered more ability in that respect at least than we have right now. Sesko not the answer I think but could we get Osimhen? If not Delay perhaps but would be so good to have thoroughly proven quality experience in that position in place for start of next eason though Delap might get there in time.

12 May 2025 20:01:33
Enough has been said about the result. We lost to a good team, and one that has been sensibly constructed. I'm more concerned that after the amount we've invested and spent, Jackson's sending off leaves us without a striker for the two penultimate games of the season. Unacceptable squad planning.

Matsen and Diasi score for Villa.

Bill, it’s common knowledge. Sorry mate I’m cracking up.

12 May 2025 20:54:51
Fir some reason I keep thinking we play Villa, not sure why but unfortunately they have two easy games coming up against TH and UTd.

Agree0 0Disagree

12 May 2025 21:17:14
Bill, Villa must be strong favourites to win both games but I have this feeling the spuds might get a draw.

Agree0 0Disagree

12 May 2025 22:52:17
Think Utd at there place for Villa may depend on how the Europa league final goes but there will be a few twists and turns would never rely on Spurs for anything.

Just read that we have collected 6 points out of the last 30 in our away games.

No matter how it's sugar coated, that is a sackable stat, no splinters from me Tom.

Agree0 0Disagree

12 May 2025 10:10:35
Bill, for about the last 3-4 months you have made your position very clear, you want EM sacked.

I will reserve my judgement for two more games and then look at the season in the round.

Not that I think it matters because in my opinion whatever happens this season EM will still be our manager at the start of next season.

12 May 2025 14:54:51
Tom

Di you not believe that ourxaway form is atrocious and bearing in mind our last game is away to a team that will be up for it and is a game we now must win.

Agree0 0Disagree

12 May 2025 15:07:53
Bill, I just see the last two games as a test for our players and manager.

It could well be that us and Forest both muck it up and let Villa in through the back door.

Agree0 0Disagree

12 May 2025 16:05:31
Bill I don't think forest will be up for it think they will lose at the weekend and have nothing to play for.

Jackson deserves criticism for yesterday's stupid sending off. All players deserve to be criticised for performing poorly in the same way a manager deserves to be questioned when he has made mistakes.

Pre the game against Liverpool I questioned Palmers performance record in big games. So, I was very pleased that he had proved me wrong. I generally judge players from game to game and although Palmer wasn't the reason we lost that game, in my opinion his overall performance was sub par. He was weak when we had eleven men and when we needed extra effort when down to ten men he was an occasional passenger.

I would have hooked him before some other players but that never happens with EM. I guess he sees Palmer as a player who can turn a game on its head but I think sometimes a different sort of message has to sent to a player.

11 May 2025 18:39:44
I will be making every effort to be at the bridge next Friday. It's a must win game and all our fans at the ground need to make as much noise as they can in support our team.

Agree0 0Disagree

12 May 2025 05:37:00
Couldn’t agree more Tom I will be there as well. You would like to think it would be good last home game of the season, Friday night and people should have been able to get a few drinks in before and needless to say its against United.

12 May 2025 08:42:11
Please EM play 433 with all the players playing in there preferred positions.

Stop this inverted FB crap.

12 May 2025 14:01:26
In absence of Jackson should Neto play in centre up front and Palmer on the right (Madueke on left again)? Even if Guiu is fit this may be too important a game for us to risk putting him in or trying one of our youngsters there surely. Guess that Sancho and perhaps George may come in off the bench at some stage.

Agree0 0Disagree

12 May 2025 14:58:06
JBS that would by my front three with Lavia, Enzo and Caicedo behind them.

11 May 2025 11:29:27
TRUE they don't care, combined with engineering works and the worst rail network in Europe it must be hard to get to games.

I absolutely agree I remember years ago we played Arsenal in FA cup semi at Villa Park on a Sunday at 4:30 major road works and rail engineering work absolute chaos. Even yesterday going to the Women’s game Baker street station was evacuated because of a minor issue with an oven in Starbucks . Two fire appliances and about 10 firefighters standing around ( obviously not their fault) .

10 May 2025 20:31:56
Tomorrow is effectively a cup final because if we get Champions league qualification - and winning tomorrow would be a giant step in that direction - this season can be considered a good one. Fail to get this qualification - surely the bottom line for Maresca and our hugely expensive squad in a season far less disrupted by injury than last season - and it won't be . As simple as that imho.

Agree0 0Disagree

10 May 2025 21:01:34
JBS, I agree tomorrow is like a final and a win tomorrow would almost guarantee a CL spot. I still think 68pts could be enough.

I think EM will still be our manager next season regardless of no CL qualification.

I’m usually wrong about these things but if the Magpies play Schar at CH I think will get a positive result.

COME ON MY MIGHTY BLUES.

Agree0 0Disagree

10 May 2025 21:07:32
Maybe it is as simple as that. It is the lack of experience that worries me the most Newcastle's midfield of Tonali and Bruno G are the right age and experience

Lose tomorrow and win our last two would guarantee CL's football next season (baring a large goal difference swing with the Villa ) but a victory tomorrow would help greatly

Some strange results recently

But I think the top 5 are Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City, Newcastle and Chelsea in that order could be totally wrong of course.

11 May 2025 12:58:51
Well looks at half time at St James that we're going to have to win last two games and without a striker.
