So we move within 6 points of top spot, (and to think we have given away 8 points this season from winning positions! ) Are we back in a title race? my lot are divided on that question but the general concensus is we are just lacking a little ingredient, namely a proper striker? we had so many chances in that game and the previous one at Spurs to have racked up 5 or 6. The defence looks better everytime Fofana plays and Robert Sanchez is looking very assured in goal and really starting to command his area, long may that continue.

Enzo Fernandez run the show and Garnacho is really surprising me with not only his ability but also his attitude, I must admit I wasn't convinced when we signed him but I've heard he even stays behind after training to work on his game which is what the likes of Lampard used to do, well done Garnacho. Also have to mention Estevao, what a sublime talent that boy is.

Hello from poland. Hope everyone's doing well. 3 and a half years in, how would everyone rate the project thus far? Owners have had time to build there club, sort out the rebuild so think its a good time to assess.

From Matt Law.

Enzo Maresca's Chelsea rotation policy has the full backing of the club's ownership and sporting directors. Chelsea accept the rotation is likely to provide bumps in the road, such as the draw at Qarabag, in the first half of the season but believe it will bring long-term reward.

I don't mind rotation of good players but we currently have some very poor options. Maresca resisted the temptation to play Jorgensen which tells me he has seen enough and he will join the bomb squad in the summer. After last night Tosin surely has to be left out of the squad going forward and there are serious doubts about Santos and the Brighton loanee who offers nothing. I doubt Guiu will get much game time and will be off in the summer and with the Sporting Lisbon winger already signed I think one of Gittens or Garnacho will move on. George offers very little and may well be sold in January and the jury is out on Hato and Delap although I expect both will stay and be given time. By all means rotate, especially after the CWC denied the players a proper break afforded to other clubs but the fringe players must be good enough. Anyway, 6 wins and a draw in the last 8 games despite huge rotation is not too bad so I must stop moaning😄😄.

Interesting post Greenaway and agree with many of your inclusions.

I think the summer should br used to get more quality in the squad rather than more youngsters from nurseries.

06 Nov 2025 20:04:59
So you aren't pleased with the youngest player we signed then Bill? Estevao is just 18 but for me is already one of our best players.

06 Nov 2025 21:51:20
Very happy Greenaway however I beleive that we need more experience in the squad, hopefully starters in order to compliment our talented youngsters.

Jorgensen should be replaced probably by Penders , don't think Tosin is good enough George will be sold.

Think Delap Hato and Gittens are here for the mid to long term, wouldn't be surprised if Garnacho is flipped for a profit . Not sure on Guiu probably a loan, Buenotte has shown some nice touches but would be surprised if we keep him

There is some sorting out to do with some non starters Sterling Diasi etc and Jackson if Munich don't pick him up, as for what's going on with Mudryk god only knows.

I would have Jackson back in January if it was possible Seymns2, he would link well with Pedro and always linked well with Palmer. Maresca liked him and he is better than Guiu.

07 Nov 2025 09:49:51
I'm not sure Jackson will want to come back, another Lukaku me think the new recruits need to be given more time and I hate to say it, I include Garnacho in that.

I really think in the summer we need to think about offloading some of our injury prone players, yes they are good but not when they are constantly on the treatment table.

A few months ago some posters and fans were calling for James to be sold because of his so called injury issues. Not many of those fans would want him sold now.

Tom, quite rightly a lot of fans were concerned about Reece’s constant absences through injury. Fingers crossed he will make it through this season without any major issues. That said, I don’t like him in midfield much prefer him playing in his natural position (s) . We should be more concerned about players we have paid significant fees for who have hardly kicked a ball.

Tom

I hope you are right about Reece but a note of caution, the season is still young.

Agree0 0Disagree

08 Nov 2025 06:23:58
Bill, yes the season is still young unless it comes too sacking the manager or a player isn’t good enough.

I do have concerns about all players who get inured, especially the ones who at the moment seem to be consistently on the treatment table.

I want Badiashile, Fofana and Lavia fit for CFC not another club. I’m not giving up on them just yet but I am just as frustrated as the next Chelsea fan.

Agree0 0Disagree

08 Nov 2025 08:29:57
Exactly Tom

And when they don't play, that's 3 players we cannot select from our squad which is a serious situation bearing in mind the games we play, it's putting too much strain on our other players.

Bill, I obviously would rather have a fully fit squad for the manager to choose a starting eleven. That of course means more likely rotation.

At the start of the season I believed that the manager would have to box clever with his squad. Having more players fit gives the manager more options to rotate. I’m happy with that but I bet some will say they would prefer a settled eleven.

I often say "our view" on here (and got picked up on it), rather than "my view", the reason being I'm in a group (our view) of 9 who meet up at most away games and all home games. 3 of us didn't bother going out tonight but others did and the collective message is Maresca tries too hard to keep the squad happy just as he did last season in the conference league.

This is the champions league and you get no easy games, play your strongest side and if the other squad members don't like it then tough. (We) don't care! rant over.

Agree0 0Disagree

05 Nov 2025 21:20:27
Totally agree, Greenaway.

Maresca must realise we are in the CL not the ECL where he could play many youngsters.

It's as if the CL is secondary to him.

I would love us to play what I consider to be our strongest team in every game. Obviously that cat happen, given it’s a long season.
We also have to consider injuries and the manager having to manage players coming back from injury or carrying an injury.

We are not privy to all of the necessary information but it never stops us fans being critical of team selection.

06 Nov 2025 06:23:35
My guess is that a club would expect about a rolling 10% ish of its squad to be injured at any one time. We at times have had over 30% of our squad injured.

Of course this season we have also had suspensions to contend with.

Tom

If he keeps swapping the team around, he won't last long. There is no cohesion from game to game and I did not realise but read in the last five games, in each game he has changed 7 of the starting 11. How in heavens name are we going to build up momentum.

Interestingly, 5 of the 6 English teams won their Czl game, guess which one didn't.

Yes Bill and sadly to a side currently placed at a very lowly 94th in European football club ratings.

This is below even Pafos of Cyprus - who we still have to play at the Bridge in January of course - though Qarabag have risen 16 places from pervious ranking of 110th.

We are currently placed 7th. Bayern are 1st. Arsenal highest placed English side at 3rd.

06 Nov 2025 17:04:15
Bill, four of the six clubs you refer to didn’t play in the CWC.

It would be brilliant if we finished in the top eight but you will have to remind me about the finishing position of PSG last year?

Agree0 0Disagree

06 Nov 2025 17:13:52
Bill, Maresca has guided us to 6 wins and a draw in the last 8 games, why on earth would you think or hope he would be sacked for that?

Never thought I would hear Jamie Carragher praising Maresca for his ability to coach players to play through the lines, rotate position and be brave on the ball, actually called him an elite coach on tonights MNF.

He also said Thomas Frank has a problem trying to do the same and make the step up from being a pragmatic coach who stifles play and focuses on set pieces to being an elite coach who can play on the front foot. The Spurs fans have turned on Frank already.
