I thought starting three at the back was a risky decision. I do not understand why Josh isn't playing more. I think Palmer was awful again, but Enzo was also poor and he has been playing well recently. PSG got their tactics spot on by going man for man.
We got lucky against Brentford when did the same thing against us and they ain't no PSG. Some small pluses, Hato did ok and despite losing out on an important tackle I thought Santos was good. Hope the Chalaboa injury isn't as bad as it looked.

Tom
Let's be honest, over the two legs, we were terrible. Someone has to be called out for this, whether it is the owners, SD's, players, or coaches.
Goodness knows what this is going to do to the players for the remainder of the season.

We will be okay. Highly disappointing result (thankfully I was celebrating St Pats and missed the game), but we will still finish in a Europa League position at worst. That would be a failure of a result, but a likely one currently.
18 Mar 2026 18:46:25
Bill, I remain convinced that if it hadn’t been for a mad 15 mins in Paris, last night would have been a lot different.
Last night, I thought they did a number on us going man for man. They won all the 50/50s and took their chances.
It’s probably me, but if we make a mistake, we are always severely punished, but if the opposition make a mistake, we never take advantage of it. Probably blue-tinted glasses at play!!

70 minutes into the away leg I thot Chelsea were the better team, with smarter combinations & slicker patterns of play. PSG's goals were given to them. Chelsea's goals were worked for. Then the wheels came off. Often, when a team takes a beating of 3 goals plus in the CL, it is not so unusual for them v very good teams to draw or lose the second game.
Last night Chelsea were awful in all aspects of the game. But, imo it will take a good team to beat PSG. I also think that result might signal the end for LR. It looked bad for the lad, & I truly think he drowned in it all. But the SDs do require a reality check. The team needs a GK, two CBs, & a CF, & all of them need to be at CL, if not WC, level.

Thoughts on Enzo's comments.
He was asked the question in the immediate aftermath of a very disappointing result, I'm not sure anything he said could be relied upon for accuracy. However, whilst I think he's a really good player, if he wanted to go, I wouldn't loose too much sleep over it. I'd put forward the argument that he could, possibly even should, be replaced with a genuine midfield partner for Caicedo, which would allow Palmer to play 10, whilst fitting Estavao in at RW. There'll obviously be other setups required for different games, three man midfields etc, but, moving forward, I believe we need Palmer and Estavao on the pitch together as much as possible.
One problem for Enzo, should he want to go, will be finding a club willing and able to pay the money for him. Only Real fit into that bracket, and that's a maybe at best.

I fear LR will have lost the confidence of some of the players last night....
They will have had doubts when he was appointed, and the first few results would have helped his cause.... but now a string of bad results will have done little to quieten the doubts in the squad. Last night was a night where we should have made sure we were still in the game at half time. We should have set ourselves up to not concede, and hoped that we went in at half time either 0-0 or 1-0 up. We came out and instantly seemed to want to go toe to toe.
Naive. Players don't like being thrashed and outclassed. Maybe Enzo wants to leave.... or perhaps he was just sending a message to the powers that be... Either way, the appointment of Liam, who is so far out of his depth, will now tear the club apart if not relieved of his duties ASAP. Under Maresca we were getting there, winning trophies and qualifying for the Champions League, he wasn't the finished article, but miles ahead of this guy who has lost the players and the fanbase. The SD behind his appointment must be called out and replaced.
18 Mar 2026 12:54:11
If Enzo wants to go and we can get the right price then fine, the money should then be spent on a goalkeeper and a midfielder with a different profile to Enzo.
18 Mar 2026 12:56:53
I read that a top French journalist who was sitting behind the dugout said that the instructions LR was giving to players were totally ignored by them.
If true, it does show a lack of confidence in LR, but if true, it is very poor of the players who are putting themselves before the club.
18 Mar 2026 13:05:54
We're all in agreement. If a player wants to leave, fine, once we get the right deal for us.
Enzo is seen as one of the senior/better players in the squad. If a player of his standing in the club wants to go, the SDs and owners should see it as a real wake-up call that something has to change.
Who could be next? Palmer? Caicedo? Estevao? Cucurella? If these types of players want out, the club would be in proper s****!
18 Mar 2026 13:08:10
Bill, how about it's all a load of old tosh. It's as good a rumour as any!!
18 Mar 2026 13:28:24
Maybe Tom, maybe not.
18 Mar 2026 18:47:11
People will believe what works for them.

Today actually resembles spring, sun is shining, birds are chirping and green shoots are appearing on my trees. Have a good day fellow posters and chatters.
18 Mar 2026 09:02:00
You too, Greenaway.
18 Mar 2026 13:23:20
Greenaway, lovely day to be out and about.

I still have no idea what this project is and what they told the players who they signed for long contracts.
Football doesn't work on 5 years time, a week in football is a long time.
Ultimately in my opinion and it's obvious that the owners have made some serious mistakes and hopefully they realise that we need a change in management.
18 Mar 2026 08:43:32
I totally agree. All this project talk, the project in football is to win your next game.
18 Mar 2026 13:11:53
My guess is to buy players with potential that can be put on a suitable pay structure. Try to win games, try to win trophies.
It's either judged as a success or failure at the end of each season.

Getting pumped over two legs by a very good PSG team shouldn’t be terminal for a head coach. There are other factors at play, such as PSG being given the weekend off, but the tie was lost in the last quarter of the first leg. It’s a disheartening, embarrassing aggregate score and result, but, like I say, along, it shouldn’t be terminal for the head coach.
Here’s the problem, it’s coupled with a run of one win in our last five in the league, including very disappointing draws against Leeds and Burnley, alongside a spiritless loss against Newcastle. That form, when coupled with this type of UCL exit, in the eyes of the fans, often is terminal. Once the toxicity sets in, it’s a very difficult ship to turn around and I don’t see Rosenior managing it.
There are undoubtedly positive pieces in this squad, players around which to build a team.
But something has got to change, the sporting directors' game plan needs to be altered, because it’s clearly not working. Enrique himself was interviewed, post Poch, but highlighted issues with overreaching ownership and too many directors; ultimately not getting or wanting the job. We won’t get a shot at another top coach unless the way the club is run from the top changes. Until then we’ll be stuck in the coaching cycle we’ve been in under BlueCo.
Just to be clear, Rosenior has my sympathies. I didn’t want Maresca at the club any longer, no need to go back over the reasons for that, but never felt Rosenior was the right appointment. It was a job he was never going to turn down, but it was way, way too early. He’s a decent young coach, with really good potential. But, we’ve got enough potential on the pitch, experience is what we need on the sideline.
18 Mar 2026 08:19:48
J, good post. The thing I find frustrating is talk of a project. There is no project. The buying and selling of young players is just a characteristic of how the owners operate, and indicative of their lack of understanding of how to build a successful football club.
Next season we will be overshadowed by Arsenal, City, Man U and Liverpool, and, at best, be struggling for fifth place again - that is our level.
18 Mar 2026 13:13:40
J, maybe the supposed end of season review will reach the same conclusion that you have.

Just watched something on YouTube from a channel called 'Business of Sport' titled something like 'What Chelsea's 350m loss really means'.
If you've got the stomach for it, well worth a watch. Won't make you feel better about our current or future situation though.
18 Mar 2026 09:36:07
I watched it and it was mostly about whether the investors will get a return on their money. Didn't really speak about anything to do with Chelsea or what the loss means.
18 Mar 2026 13:14:11
I didn't find anything surprising about it.
18 Mar 2026 13:25:58
Yes, it's been a sporting and financial failure. I did say a couple years ago case studies will be written about it. Think that's been proven to be true.
18 Mar 2026 15:52:40
You say a lot of things Standard and most of it is nonsence.
18 Mar 2026 18:06:42
Another pointless comment, a misspelled one at that. What I said is not controversial, if you want to try to be objective about it.
18 Mar 2026 18:57:19
Standard, we have no idea how this is all going to end. When it ends, we will be able to judge if it's been a success or failure.
I wouldn't have a clue what our club would currently be valued at, and I haven't got a clue what its value will be when these owners are contractually free to sell.
If I remember correctly, that is in another six years.
I look at other clubs who have had new owners, and there seems to be some evidence that a bedding-in period happens.
My criticism is the early transfer mistakes, and the fact the turnover of players and managers, in my opinion, isn't helpful.
18 Mar 2026 21:30:49
I really don't think anyone takes you serious standard, your constant comments about Moises Caicedo being a donkey, your silly comments about "studies and papers" being written, do you have any idea about the subject? of course you don't! you are looking for attention all the time but really need to find some friends and chill out.

Seems Enzo has all but confirmed he will leave come the end of the season. Not surprising, he did kiss the Benfica badge after 3 minutes there before coming to us a week or so later. I think the effort he puts in is undeniable. However, range of passing is horrendous at times and not the greatest bloke. Knowing a fair few Argentinians, I’m very surprised he has had any part in the huddle and wanting to “respect the ball” as they don’t really play into the softness of Western society over there.
I think we wouldn’t sell for less than we paid and he is playing his best football. If we could get Vitinha in to play next to Caicedo I think it would be a huge W (doubt it’s likely).
18 Mar 2026 07:31:51
Enzo is a decent player, but he ain't no Frank Lampard!
18 Mar 2026 10:22:06
I agree, but when one goes, the dominoes fall.
18 Mar 2026 10:46:22
Either the players we currently have are not up to the job, or they're being badly coached. If it's the first one, then a clear out might not be such a bad thing, Nib.
17 Mar 2026 22:13:12
Not waking up for games for the rest of the season seems the play. Truly believe we need the rest of the season to unravel the same way that this tie seemed to for any decent progress to be made. Liam needs to go, as there is zero chance the boys can/will continue to turn up for him when he behaves and presents himself as such an absolute tool of a human. Some of the quotes are out of hand now. The boys huddle in the middle to respect the ball? If that's the case the whole lot need to go. This isn't Woodstock, it's football and these lot need some balls of their own.
I assume that if we miss CL qualification we also have a couple of players wanting out, which I would welcome. One thing the owners planned well was the purchases of Emegha and Quenda last year, which instantly improves/adds competition in two areas of the pitch. Penders I want to have another season on loan but we might not get that luxury and then it's sign a CB (or two) that doesn't rubbish themselves under a slight bit of pressure, or think they are prime modric on the ball while making 10 yard sideway passes on their journey of aging as men with Liam.

I posted earlier that I was so sad with football but after that tonight I give up. Mr Rosenoir tried his best but I don't know why he went with a back 3 when we never do that. It is not play station. He changed it at HT so knew it was wrong. He play a rookie Sarr over Josh who knows the team better. He then changed at HT. Why try to be so clever? Again, a manager just playing chess with pawns on the pitch. Is he the worst manager in our history? Last few games, lost to PSG, lost to Newcastle, lost to PSG, draw with Burnley, draw with Leeds.
Is he the worst ever manager of all time in our history? I think it is a horror show and really don't like hearing his voice as it makes me so depressed so going to have a break. I really like the people on here, but mentally I'm troubled with this. But look, the world is at war so not that bad. Enjoy lads.

RPD, look after yourself mate.
I always look forward to reading your posts. You add a lot to this site. Hope your posting regularly again soon.

The board have to do what’s right. It was never going to work with Liam, so out his depth. Bring Terry in to steady ship till end of year, then try and get someone in.
