The Athletic reporting that Delap has expressed a preference for CFC, subject to contract negotiations etc.
Strong, direct threat similar to Jackson (and maybe as currently unrefined), but Chelsea clearly benefit when they have a forward who stretches defences and creates space for Palmer and co.
I can see the logic.
1.) 29 May 2025 15:48:17
Spot on. The thing with someone like Sesko or Ekitike is they drop short to receive the ball all the time. No good for players like Palmer who like to find space.
Osihmen will likely go to Saudi. So that only leaves Delap or Gyokores. I'd be happy with either.
2.) 29 May 2025 18:03:22
Dan I'd love to see both Gyokeres and Delap at CFC but seems it will be Delap who is quite a classic style number 9 not easy to knock off the ball and should be a handful for defenders.
3.) 29 May 2025 18:05:40
Or Delap and Ekitike even.
4.) 30 May 2025 23:35:30
There is probably an obvious answer but why are Utd not linked with Gyokeres?
5.) 31 May 2025 06:59:34
I'm not sure they have the facilities do they. Probably have to sell Bruno? Also, would he want the move in uniteds current situation.
6.) 31 May 2025 10:55:59
Gyokeres woudl surely want more Champions League football I'd think dan23 and did get 6 gioals from 8 games in CL this last season.
7.) 31 May 2025 15:12:02
If Utd sell Bruno, it lowers their ceiling but maybe also raises their floor.
8.) 01 Jun 2025 00:40:19
The manager knows him so well and yet it doesn’t seem as if he wants him at Utd. It probably is because he doesn’t want to play for a club that from the outside is a basket case but it doesn’t feel right to me! Of course as mentioned it could just be e a desire of the player to play CL football.

Just seen a report suggesting Chelsea have agreed a deal with Al Ettifaq for Harvey Vale. Took me by surprise, although I saw he was on the list to move on. Bit a head scratcher for him. Surely he has other options.
1.) 27 Aug 2024 23:51:11
Harvey should be saying 'Al ettifaqoff' to them. I'll see myself out.

Been thinking about this for a while, but I think we need to stop thinking about players as players in this Chelsea system: they are assets that will either go on to improve performance of the team (the shop front) or appreciate in value and be sold for a return.
So, when we get the question: why are we buying another AM when we already have a stockpile.? Well, we are stock piling them because they tend to appreciate in value and achieve higher fees in the market later.
Why buy them young? Well, because they have the most upside potential.
It's high risk, but it's not a mad strategy given the way fees have been rising across football. And expansion into the multiclub model allows for greater opportunities to showcase these players and enhance their value.
If it is a venture capital style model, you would only be looking for 2/ 10 to break through for the approach to wash its face.
Personally, I'm not mad on treating young people as commodities, but that's not new in football.

Agree with your overall point FD77 however I think there is one major caveat, and that is that none of these players are being signed by Strasbourg.
There are only six loan spots for players that aren't both u21 AND club trained (3 years at current club between ages of 15 and 21). So if you stockpile them, you are very limited as to how you develop them to the point that you can actually turn a profit on them. It doesn't matter that you own other clubs if it's only Chelsea who is buying these players.
2.) 24 Jul 2024 15:15:51
Is it true Chelsea are looking to move casadei on on a permanent deal? Seems crazy.

FD77, you are echoing my sentiments of the last two seasons. It’s a business and will look at the last few years under Roman, it was being run as a business.
I see it as a business/ judgement call. We feel emotionally attached to certain players and with some fans they seem more attached to academy players. As long as the judgement of buying, keeping and selling is done/ judged broadly on ability then I’m fine.
We should also try and remember we all see the worth of a player differently and that obviously includes the coaching staff.
I understand how people can refer to the likes of Chalaboa and CG as “cash cows” but we do still have academy players in the squad but they are seen by the decision makers as having the ability to be a Chelsea player.

I love Gallagher work rate. But is he good enough to play in a two man midfield. I do t think he is. Or even in the attacking three, he isn’t. I think chuekameka offers a lot more than him. It’s a shame but the truth.

Neil Bath's exit has caught me off guard. Looks like we will be restructuring the academy around Shields and Van der Kraan.
Bath deserves a lot of kudos from Chelsea fans for what he built in an era where the pathway from youth team to the first team was really tough.
1.) 05 Jul 2024 21:55:28
Is that Van der Kraan from City? what a pick up that would be. Well done the recruitment team. As for Neil Bath, what a man. Did so much for the club and so nice that the owners have come out and really appreciated him.

Is Trev better than Disasi? Yes. Does that mean that when you factor in everything else recalling him is the best plan? No.
Let Chalobah play football, trust in Achempong and tosin under Baduashile is back. Seems fine to me.

The whole [X] third/ fourth choice midfielder isn’t good enough narrative drives me a little nuts. A number of these guys appear to be decent, PL level players who can fulfil a squad function for Chelsea. A game might occasionally turn on whether one guy is 5% weaker than another, but seldom.
These are either young - so don’t expect the earth immediately - or at least on a par with Tiago, Sam Dalla Bona, Sidwell, Smertin, Jarosik, Grant….

Or - whisper it - we could stick with what we have….
27 Aug 2024 22:50:49
I’d be happy enough with Toney within the wage structure - if we have to buy someone! I’m still a fan of Jackson, but I think Toney has a good all round game.
03 Jun 2025 02:22:48
Worth remembering that Alfie Gilchrist will be coming back from loan and was flavour of the month last season. What’s his role going to be?
03 Jun 2025 02:21:35
I was going to echo the point about experience being relative.
There aren’t many Chelsea teams that have had a Champions League winner, a European Champion, an African Cup of Nations winner and a World Cup winner in them at the same time.
At least not when their prime years were still ahead of them.
02 Jun 2025 17:37:40
Not sure why people are down on Madueke - I think he has often been impactful, if not consistently so. I like his directness off either flank. I would also include Jackson as an option off the left as well as through the middle alongside Delap.
Sancho? Flatters to deceive but also scored a big goal against Spurs and another in the CL final. For £25m, I think he is worth another season. With Estaveao joining, I’m not convinced we need another right wide forward, but no doubt we will buy one!
I am discounting Mudryk for now, but it would be good to have some clarity. People make mistakes, especially when they have his background and with the ongoing war - maybe I’m just a soft touch.
29 May 2025 13:50:46
Colwill has had a bit more devil about him this season - which was needed, I think. He looks less lightweight. I’d still have Fofana as the first choice RCB, but I don’t see much need for an additional CB unless others leave, especially with Acheampong and Anselmino around.
13 Jan 2025 19:56:06
Colwill was playing at LCB in a 3 for Brighton (mostly), so less likely to head the ball than as one of a pair, perhaps?
