Aaron Anselmino is flying in from Boca Juniors and will link up with the squad with immediate effect. I wonder if that means someone is departing?

I can’t see him playing this season for Chelsea. I seem to recall him only playing a few games for Boca or maybe I’m getting him mixed up with another CH.

2.) 31 Dec 2024 10:47:33
I also find it hard to believe he is a better defender than Gilchrest who is having a fine season at Sheff Utd.

3.) 31 Dec 2024 14:40:28
I've never watched him play so I don't have a reference point to assess him, I do however know that he has played 12 games in the league since the summer, starting 10 of them.

I reckon he may be brought in as extra cover since both Fofana and Badiashile are out with injuries, and Disasi being underwhelming so far this season.

4.) 31 Dec 2024 17:24:57
Gilchrist one to bring back as dlternate with Gusto given James fitness probs plus Disasi not good enough?

5.) 31 Dec 2024 20:31:27
Hopefully Disasi.

Start of the season I had us finishing top 5.
I'm upgrading that to top 4.
Scouse have walked the league but they have a rebuild due in the summer with players out of contract and that will cost them a lot of money. Arsenal are a bit Spursy so no worries there next season. City also have an ageing squad and Pep looks fecked but they have the resource to come again. Us? we have a very good pool of players and some very exciting south americans joining in the summer, nail a striker, centre back and keeper and I'm making a bold prediction that we win the title next season.

Good upbeat post West. I’m a wee bit worried about the next month. Seeing Everton dispatched at home by Forrest and Fulham failing to beat Bournemouth at home has slightly unnerved me and shaken my confidence. Got to stop the wobble and get a win at Ipswich, any slip at all and City (of all teams? …that’ll teach me for writing them off) would be on Chelsea’s tail.

2.) 29 Dec 2024 20:42:47
I agree Scot, we must beat Ipswich. Away at Everton the ref and VAR did us, straight red and a penalty with that Pickford challenge. The Fulham result was a shocker though and we need to bounce back from that. Be interesting to see if Noni is involved? He has ability but his attitude is poor. He was late for yet another team meeting on top of his stroppy attitude at being subbed off in games. Chelsea will look to off load him in the summer and he might even go this window if a suitable offer comes in. He is best mates with Carney and there is a link there with the two of them and their attitude. Well done to Maresca for stamping on it.

3.) 29 Dec 2024 21:48:07
That’s the first time I’ve heard that Chuka has an “attitude? ”.

4.) 29 Dec 2024 23:11:36
Yes he has Tom and that is why Marasca wants him out. The two of them cause trouble. I can tell you a few stories but will keep my powder dry.

5.) 30 Dec 2024 05:20:43
That’s news to me. I haven’t heard one singe word against him.

I like the way Maresca is stamping his authority on this young squad, step out of line, don't train correctly, display bad attitude and you won't make the matchday squad. Yes, it hurts in the short term but long term and the dividends will pay off. Under Poch Noni got away with his poor attitude time after time, under Maresca he gets dropped. The message is powerful and Maresca is key to our return to the top table. We have all seen too much player power over the years and I like his approach. I think Noni and one or two others will be shown the door and replaced with players who will not only improve the team but also show the right attitude at all times. All part of the process as we strive to compete at the top table.

Westside he does not need to throw them under the bus to the media, if you are doing it, do it behind closed doors.

As bad as Man City are this season, Pep does not have a moan about his players.

2.) 27 Dec 2024 16:28:49
Bill I disagree. I have said countless times that I didn't like noni attitude.
Hearing it from enzo only proves the point. In days gone by if you weren't pulling your weight then you get told. If you don't like it. There is the door.

Unfortunately nowadays you can't as the snowflakes melt.

In my opinion he has done the correct thing and if he doesn't like it then off you pop.

3.) 27 Dec 2024 20:42:10
Strictl discipline with players is fine as long as you are winning and successful otherwise you lose the dressing room- a fine balance.

4.) 27 Dec 2024 21:30:33
I have a feeling that if we had won this we being brought up as an issue. Of course if we lose against Ipswich the so called story will have a life of its own.

We go into Christmas in 2nd place, we are the 2nd highest scorers with 37 goals and have the 3rd best defence having shipped 19. We are 7 points clear of 5th place in our hunt for Champions League football. We are yet again the top club in London. Our football is a joy to watch and our Head Coach is looking a real find. Would I have taken this at the start of the season? too right I would.
Happy Christmas ED's and fellow posters.

Good assessment West. I was at Goodison yesterday it was an awful day for football. Chelsea should have scored in the first half. One thing that I did notice was the confident football from Sanchez, this coach is improving everyone who comes under his tutelage.

2.) 23 Dec 2024 14:06:05
LondonScot, good point about Sanchez. He gets plenty of stick but very little praise when it’s deserved.

We should definitely have had a penalty and they should have been down to ten men but I don’t thinks it’s a conspiracy against Chelsea!

3.) 23 Dec 2024 14:18:58
You should think it is Tom, Liverpool fans think that everything they don't get a decision in their favour lol.

4.) 23 Dec 2024 17:52:54
In case I forget, to all posters and Eds. Merry Christmas and a Happy Blue Year.

{Ed001's Note - merry Christmas Jimbo, to you and all the posters on here.}

Merry Xmas to all the EDs, including ED002, who will always be in our thoughts.

{Ed001's Note - merry Christmas Bill and West Side as I missed it in his post. I was half asleep when I edited that obviously!}

Great bit of news with Josh Acheampong signing a new long term contract. The academy just keeps on producing these wonderful players and he has a clear pathway into the side. I expect him to start on Thursday and be on the bench on Sunday.

Totally agree West Side, a great talent and it would have hurt to have lost him.

KDH was a really strange signing and hopefully he moves on soon. Just not at the level we require.

Players will always come and go. Not sure if it is just papers and lazy journo's putting stories out there but either way if he goes we will replace him. As whitey said he is not really a 9 and is mainly competing with Palmer for the 10 role. If he does go Gyokores or Osminhen would be a nice replacement and they are proper 9's to compete with Jackson. That said, I really like Jackson and don't want to see him unsettled. Lovely to be sitting 3rd in the table talking about how to improve the squad though. What a difference from last season.

Would be a brilliant bit of work by the club to pick up Tchouameni, competition and cover is always needed and to have Caicedo, Lavia, Tchouameni and Santos all competing with each other for those 2 midfield slots would be the envy of every club in Europe.

You are correct Tom. The old squad needed a refresh and with the sanctions it was also a very difficult time. Yes, too many signings in too few windows but that will now slow down. Players will come and go and these owners are not shy to spend their money and I fully expect 2 more windows of activity. They are winners and highly motivated by success and won't stop until we return to the top table.

You are totally right seymns2, the jigsaw is nearly complete and the absolute key now is keeping and backing Enzo Maresca. He has got the squad working well and his ruthless approach and brilliant on the eye football is just what was needed after the ill disciplined shenanigans under Poch. Many of my mates who support other clubs actually comment on how good we are looking under Maresca which is a rarity as a Chelsea fan. I think we are a top striker, centre half and keeper from returning to the top table. We also have some very talented players joining in the summer. The future looks good.
