Rumours that the gaffer would like Andre Santos back from his loan to cover the midfield. I like the way he has now had a good look at this squad and decided who fits and who doesn't. All starts to paint a clear picture as to his use or lack of use of substitutes. I like that.
1.) 07 Jan 2025 13:00:34
Santos should stay on loan unless Lavia has a long-term injury.
2.) 07 Jan 2025 14:25:01
Absolutely agree Celeryking, leave the boy where he is and let him enjoy improving his career.
3.) 07 Jan 2025 15:43:38
If Lavia was fit all the time I would agree with you Celery but he can't be relied on. Casedei is not good enough and is moving to Italy and there are rumours that KDH is off to West Ham (he is also not good enough) . Cover is needed.
4.) 09 Jan 2025 17:58:58
Didn't EM have a chance to compatre Casadei or Santos or Ugochukwa in pre-season games? If so, and was looking at one or the other as back up for e. g. Lavia or Caicedo he seems to have decided on Casadei who EM had already seen a lot of at Leicester. Is it because Santos has down so well on loan and EM has changed his mind on Casadei? Certainly Casadei has been given almost no EPL game time. BUt then EM clearly had asay in tarnsfer of KD-H as a replacment for CG. not obviously an improvement on what we've seen from KDH thus far compared to CG last season.
5.) 10 Jan 2025 10:52:33
I'm not sure if you were aware JBS, but Conor didn't want to play for Chelsea anymore.
6.) 10 Jan 2025 13:28:07
Enzo
I think it was more yo do with the contract rather than him not wanting to play for us.
7.) 11 Jan 2025 13:50:02
The whole [X] third/ fourth choice midfielder isn’t good enough narrative drives me a little nuts. A number of these guys appear to be decent, PL level players who can fulfil a squad function for Chelsea. A game might occasionally turn on whether one guy is 5% weaker than another, but seldom.
These are either young - so don’t expect the earth immediately - or at least on a par with Tiago, Sam Dalla Bona, Sidwell, Smertin, Jarosik, Grant….
8.) 11 Jan 2025 21:05:31
FD77, I remember Iva being referred “as just” a squad player and he didn’t turn out to bad. Likewise when Dave was signed, he was just seen as a so called squad defender.
It’s about impressing in training and when given the chance taking it.
9.) 13 Jan 2025 08:52:51
Completely agree with you FD77.

Ramon Veiga epitomises the clubs recruitment policy, a talented young player bought in for little money who was under the radar at Basle. Works with a high calibre coach in Enzo Maresca who has a tremendous record of developing young players and then gets noticed by his international team manager who gives him a debut. The player then wants more, and who can blame him, so gets impatient and makes a noise (well his agent does) about more minutes. An offer then comes in and the club double their money and pop the profit in a kitty to fund the next big purchase (Isak for example), and then look for a replacement either from the academy, out on loan or a new purchase. Sell on clauses and buy backs will be essential in this model. Now, if a player comes in and is first team ready from the off all is perfect, minutes straight away, a gem unearthed and pats on the back all round. These young players are all super talented but not all will work out but their profiles and low wages will always mean that can move on seamlessly which is a far cry from a previous era. No right or wrongs here either just a different model. (And I'm serious about that kitty for the odd superstar and would love it to be Isak) .
{Ed001's Note - how can Enzo Maresca have a 'tremendous record of developing young players' when he has barely begun his coaching career and has no real record? You need to calm down a bit. He has not been anywhere long enough to develop anything or anyone yet.}
1.) 13 Jan 2025 18:31:20
His record at Man City developing young players was outstanding. So good that Pep brought him into the first team environment and he coached them to the treble including the Champions League. Players like Cole Palmer talk very highly of him but hey ho there you go! I thought this was a banter site?
{Ed001's Note - he was part of a massive team and solely working with youngsters, that is not a track record of developing young players in the first team is it?
As for thought it was a banter site, does that mean people can only comment if they agree with you? Or is it ok if people have different views from you?}
2.) 13 Jan 2025 20:20:37
“Banter” interesting!
3.) 14 Jan 2025 08:37:02
Ed001, I must admit I get bored when I’ve heard that recent chelsea coaches develop young players. As I’ve said before that is not the main job of the manager/ head coach otherwise what’s the point of the dozens of coaches of all descriptions at the club. As for Veiga I’d check his birth certificate, he looks about 35 lol.
{Ed001's Note - what Enzo said here can be said about every coach coming through at a top club. That is why they get promoted. Means nothing when it comes to being a head coach of the club though as the role is completely different.
As for Veiga, have you ever seen Abbott Elementary? He is good in that is Veiga....}
4.) 14Jan 2025 16:27:59
Maresca flaws are starting to show, talking about fullbacks not liked going up and down and only inverting like there’s no other way to play and when asked about formation or palmer start in right ( like he did last season ) it was a no, and it doesn’t matter where you start but end up, carney not even given chance, our formations and cuccurella inverting is starting to be figured out and
I worry his to stubborn to have a plan B, on top of that we now starting to see an unhappy squad, veiga wanting out, nkunku disasi KDH Carney casedei, I mean teams are for Circling for loans and we want sales. But with long deals we are sort of on back foot, keep unhappy players around and pay them or take the hit and let them go on loan and maresca has said he has 3 players for the no10 role so hard for others to get ahead of palmer, so why did we force the Felix deal, made no sense and still doesn’t,
5.) 14 Jan 2025 17:15:40
I’m happy if we loan Chuka because I think he is a talented player who we would regret selling.
Players come and players go and it’s understandable that players are not happy missing games.
I wouldn’t have a clue about EM having only one way to play. Certainly at the start of the season we changed shape during games.
10 Jan 2025 19:51:55
I thought the gaffer might start Anselmino tomorrow but he has stated he is letting him settle in at Cobham before giving him minutes later in the season. I look forward to seeing him play. He also states that there is a possibility that Big Trev comes back from his loan and he likes MG as a player! read into that what you want. I wonder who starts at CB? Is Josh now first choice alongside Levi? If so, I'm guessing they will be left out and Disasi and Tosin start with Gusto and Veiga at full back. James will get minutes from the bench as will Lavia in midfield.
1.) 11 Jan 2025 08:43:42
Enzo
Hopefully I'm wrong but Reece will be on for minutes literally until he gets injured.

A question for ED01 if I may? With live streaming of every game by clubs potentially not that far away and with the huge revenue that will bring from across the globe are these huge stadiums going to be needed going forward? Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
{Ed001's Note - yes mate, they will probably mostly end up being full of daytrippers, but they will make a huge difference to revenue. It is just like recording artists, they still tour the world playing to stadiums, because you can make more money from that on top of what you get from the other revenue streams. The bigger the stadium, the more money. The issue will be pricing. Clubs are going to have to be careful on that front to keep the stadia full.}
1.) 10 Jan 2025 15:01:28
Thanks ED01. I agree about pricing going forward. A lot of fans will be content with watching every match live on a stream and the stadiums could be half empty if the pricing is wrong and with little to no atmosphere if filled with day trippers.
{Ed001's Note - exactly and that will look crap on streams.}
2.) 11 Jan 2025 10:15:59
I suppose the clubs could afford to keep prices lower in stadiums if they are generating huge sums from streaming.
3.) 11 Jan 2025 21:06:56
Bill, that would be a nice idea but I doubt it and I think you doubt it as well?
4.) 12 Jan 2025 00:30:48
If they get the pricing wrong you could have a 60,000 stadium half full with no atmosphere as half the world sit at home or in the pub watching live streams of every game their team play. Begs the question as to even bother building a new stadium?
08 Jan 2025 09:07:04
Enzo Maresca has had half a season in the job and has decided that changes are needed. I like the way he is cultivating and pruning to build a winning team. Ability is one thing but attitude and hard work are also needed together with desire and mental strength. Casedei looks like he is off to Italy and KDH is being offered around and was informed by the club in December that he can leave. With Lavia's fitness a doubt who comes in? Santos? It was telling that both Disasi and Tosin were overlooked in favour of a young academy player in Josh against Palace, that also showed all the young academy players that the gaffer will give you chances and pathways exist under him which is a welcome change at our great club. I wonder if he would of let Livramento and Hall leave as Poch and TT did? Will Big Trev come back? Maresca has the courage to challenge the sporting directors and if, as I suspect, it was their decision to try to sell Trev will they relent and let our gaffer have him back?
How about Veiga and Noni? poor attitudes apparently? will he look to move them on? Apparently he didn't want Felix either and very rarely plays him so maybe he will be off as well? One thing is for sure the gaffer knows what he wants and whilst it may take another window or two I think he is moulding this squad into real contenders. My only concern is he is up against the very people who brought him in, the sporting directors. How are they going to react when he tells them some of the players they purchased need to go?
1.) 08 Jan 2025 10:00:02
The problem is Enzo, it maybe difficult to shift them if they are on good money, look how difficult it is to shift Chilwell.
The other thing is that most of the time it's Italuan clubs who come in abd want loan deals with OPTIONS to purchase and us pay part of the salary. If they want the player they low ball us with an offer with the player putting pressure on us to sell him to them.
2.) 08 Jan 2025 10:45:27
Bill, the likes of Chilly and Sterling may well be in big wages but I think the most recent signings are on PRP as part of there remuneration.
3.) 08 Jan 2025 17:31:20
Only Sterling, Chilly and Reece are on "silly money" Bill, the rest are on performance related pay so far easier to sell. There is a lot of interest in several players and Casedei is now on the verge of joining Conte at Napoli. Great to Potter off the wage bill as well and he might want a player or two at West Ham.
07 Jan 2025 21:23:05
Watching Newcastle against Arsenal, that fabled Arsenal defence isn't much better than ours! That Isak is a bit special though for Newcastle, now he really would be an upgrade.
1.) 07 Jan 2025 21:27:31
I can’t believe I’m saying this but I think I would prefer Isak more than Osimhen. I’m not sure who would want to pay the reported fee but who knows!
2.) 07 Jan 2025 22:04:11
It would be worth paying Tom, the boy has it all and would put us right back at the top table. Maresca has the players making so many chances he would thrive in our system.
3.) 07 Jan 2025 22:28:27
Both good ST'S Tom, who knows if they would be any good in our system.
4.) 07 Jan 2025 22:56:10
My guess is they would be ok but you can never be a 100% certain that a player will perform at any new club.
5.) 08 Jan 2025 08:51:25
Bill, I’m not sure what our system is unless you mean missing chances and not putting games to bed. Seriously though, a player like Isak would improve us: he has many attributes but the main one is his clinical finishing in the 18 yard box. As for Newcastle they have energy and team spirit and are breathing down our necks. The only thing that might hold them back is the lack of depth in their squad.
12 Jan 2025 19:49:11

Or is off on a permanent basis?

Jimbo, I totally agree with you about Poch being a total bullsh--ter.
09 Jan 2025 12:39:43
The majority of Chelsea fans I know are 100% behind Enzo Maresca and see him as a great fit with our young squad. Match day fans are certainly behind him at present but results are all that matter. Lose a few more on the bounce and no doubt change will be called for! As a club we have recent history of constantly changing the manager and this has continued under the new owners. I, for one hope Maresca succeeds and at this point in time believe he is doing a good job. I do know a few gooners and they are not happy with Arteta and feel they are now treading water and will fall down the pack and certainly behind us unless he gets binned off. Last season they thought he was the best thing since slice bread!
